Pia Parolin is a scientist and lecturer at the University of Hamburg, Germany, and at INRA / University of Nice, France, in the group Theoretical and Applied Ecology in Protected Environments and Agrosystems (TEAPEA). She achieved her Ph.D. degree from the Max-Planck-Institute for Limnology in Plön, Germany and worked for many years at the National Institute for Amazon Research (INPA) in Manaus, Brazil. Since 2012, she is Vice-President of the Society for Tropical Ecology (gtö). The focus of her work lies on plant ecology and more particularly on tropical floodplain ecology, tree ecophysiology and establishment, and wetlands conservation.
