Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program

Applications are now being accepted through the Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program for full time resident fellowships at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) in Panama.
 
Opportunities for independent research
 
SI Fellowships are awarded annually to graduate students, predoctoral students, postdoctoral and senior investigators to conduct research in association with members of the STRI scientific staff, and to utilize the resources of STRI.
 
Stipend Allowances
 
Graduate Student Fellowship: $7,500.00 for 10 weeks.
Predoctoral Fellowship: $36,000 annually; research allowance up to $4,000.
Postdoctoral Fellowship: $50,400 annually; research allowance up to $4,000.
Senior Fellowship: $50,400 annually; research allowance up to $4,000.
 
Smithsonian fellowship stipends are not salary or compensation.

Prior to submitting the formal application, applicants are encouraged to consult with the staff scientist(s) they are interested in working with to determine if they will be available to serve as a research advisor/mentor.

Fields of Research
 
We strongly encourage applicants in disciplines including ecology, anthropology, archaeology, paleontology, paleoecology, evolutionary biology, molecular phylogenetics, biogeography, animal behavior, neurobiology, soils sciences, and physiology of tropical plants and animals. Research should be based at one of the STRI facilities; proposals that include comparative research in other tropical countries will be considered.
