The Group of Malagasy Baobab Specialists and Passionate People (GSPBM) is organizing the first congress about baobabs in Madagascar next 11-13th December. This meeting will bring together researchers, biodiversity managers, conservation stakeholders, CITES scientific authorities as well as economic and tourist operators who operate in the field of exploitation, marketing and conservation and who work directly and/or indirectly on baobabs.
The chosen theme is “Conservation of baobabs for a sustainable economic development”.
The main objectives of the congress are:
- Capitalize all the knowledge and scientific, socio-cultural and economic data on baobabs;
- Create a forum for exchanges and discussion between researchers and economic operators about sustainable valorization of baobab species;
- Elaborate conservation strategies for each baobab species, combining conservation and valorization, by proposing major lines of research and regulatory texts for the commercialization of the species.
