XII International Congress of Wildlife Management in the Amazon and Latin America

Organized by The Ministry of the Environment of Ecuador, Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Wildlife Conservation Society Ecuador and the Community of Wildlife Management in Latin America.

8-12 August 2016, Quito – Ecuador

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

In this second communication we reiterate our invitation to participate in the XII International Congress of Wildlife Management in Amazonia and Latin America, which will take place in Quito, Ecuador, from August 8th to August 12th, 2016 in the campus of Universidad San Francisco de Quito. This conference is open to all students and professionals involved in the management of wildlife in the region and aims to foster interaction, strengthen links, and exchange knowledge related to the research and conservation of wildlife in the Neotropics.

Objectives: 

  • Promote the communication of research on wildlife management conducted in Amazonia and Latin America.
  • Encourage the exchange of information, knowledge and experience.
  • Promote collaboration between researchers, officials, decision-makers, and students in order to generate information relevant to wildlife management, and development of effective and inclusive for the conservation of wildlife in the Neotropics.

Themes of the Congress:

The XII Congress will include lectures, workshops, panel discussions, mini-courses, symposia, oral presentations and poster exhibitions. The thematic areas of the congress include:

  • Community wildlife management
  • Wildlife monitoring at the landscape scale
  • Characterization and management of human – wildlife conflicts
  • Impact of exotic species on wildlife
  • Characterization, impact and treatment of zoonotic diseases
  • Ex situ wildlife management

Registration and Pre-registration:

For registration and pre-registration (we will send the details in the Third Communication) you must fill out a form on the website of the twelfth CIMFAUNA, which will be available online from the first half of December. 2015. The pre-registration will be free of charge and will be fully independent of the registration fee. The purpose of pre-registration is to obtain information to plan the congress. Those who pre-register must pay the registration fee if they wish to benefit from the preferential rate for early registration.

Registration Costs:

 

Payment details will be included in the Third Communication. Unfortunately, we do not have funds to offer scholarships or financial support to participants. Therefore, attendees must procure funds for transportation, food and lodging. We are in the process of arranging discounts on hotels and airfare.

Submission of Abstracts:

Guidelines for the presentation and submission of abstracts will be sent in the Third Communication. All papers (oral presentations and posters) under consideration for the XII CIMFAUNA should be related to the thematic areas of the congress. Entries must submit final results of original research or conservation initiatives. Papers that solely present preliminary results will not be accepted. Time and space constraints will be important factors during the congress so unfortunately we will not be able to accept all submitted abstracts.

Abstracts should contain a maximum of 250 words, and should include a clear summary of the objectives, methods, main results, and conclusions. The reception of abstracts will begin from the moment the Third Circular is sent and the submitting period will expire on March 31, 2016.

Presentation of Papers:

The presentation formats will be oral and poster. The authors will suggest the preferred method, which will be accepted until the maximum number of oral presentations has been achieved.

For oral presentations, the use of Microsoft Power Point it is suggested, for which we will have projectors and laptops installed in each of the conference rooms. The duration of each oral presentation will be 15 minutes, with a maximum of 12 minutes for the presentation plus 3 minutes for questions from the audience.

For the posters, a maximum of 84.1 x 119.8 cm (A0 size) is suggested. There will be a poster session on a set schedule, and the display time of the posters will depend on the final number of posters received and approved.
