It is with great sadness that we learned about the passing of Dr. Thomas E. Lovejoy III, ATBC Past-President (2005) and ATBC Honorary Fellow (1998), brilliant tropical biologist and conservationist. Tom is broadly known for having coined the term biological diversity (1980) and for his outstanding contributions to biodiversity conservation, especially in the Brazilian Amazon, where he established the PDBFF project (“Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project”) back in 1979. Apart from his expressive academic contributions, Tom made truly impressive contributions to policy and conservation, being deeply involved in the establishment of the CBD (Convention of Biological Diversity), among others. Tom leaves behind an enormous legacy and numerous friends throughout the World. A formal remembrance will follow shortly.
Thank you for your outstanding contributions, Tom. You are already being greatly missed!
