The past few days have been very sad for biodiversity research. We now mourn the passing of E.O. Wilson, ATBC Honorary Fellow (1999) and one of the world’s leading authorities on natural history and conservation. E.O. Wilson is widely known for his pioneering work in entomology and for coining the term “BioDiversity.” Ed Wilson emphasized the importance of tropical diversity, highlighting the global nature of the biodiversity crisis, and placing tropical biology at the center of conservation. E.O. Wilson was an avid writer and an excellent communicator, having won several Pulitzer Prizes. Our thoughts are with Ed Wilson’s family, colleagues, friends, and the whole community of tropical biologists and conservationists with whom he worked closely. A formal remembrance will follow shortly.
Thank you, Ed, for a brilliant career and wonderful contributions to biodiversity research. Your legacy will continue to inspire all of us!
